The Disaster in Haiti

By Dean

There is no cruelty or evil intent in the Earth, she is not our mother, she is not alive, we are. We are those who must adapt to the ways of the Earth, we are the ones that must live within the bounds that Nature places on life. If we are to survive, we must first shed the belief that we are somehow responsible for earthquakes, hurricanes and other natural disasters. We are not, we did not bring any such punishment upon ourselves, other than to foolishly believe that we were supreme, that we were the conquerors of Nature, that the Earth would bow to our will.

By building cities within the vicinity of tectonic plate faults, we showed temerity in our neglect of the physical  laws of tectonic plate movements over the hot magma of the Earth.  By living in zones that constantly are buffeted with hurricanes and extreme weather conditions, we are placing ourselves in danger, Nature is not out to punish us.  There are laws of Nature that we must respect, and there are the gifts of Life that we must cherish.

My advice to the People of Haiti in this tragic moment is to seek to survive, seek to live, abandon your demolished homes, abandon any thing, just seek to survive.  Go to the ocean, go to the port where you may at least bathe in the ocean and wait for food and water from the ships that are soon to arrive from your Caribbean neighbors.

If you are not able to help in clearing the debris of the destruction of this holocaust, go, leave the destruction behind and head for the beach, where you will at least find water to cleanse your bodies, and where you can find food and water that your fellow Caribbeans are going to bring.

I call on the People of Cuba and of the Dominican Republic to awaken to the magnitude of this disaster. Bring food, water and sanitary items, whatever you can find, to the location designated by your government authorities, where ships will transport them to Port Au Prince. Mobilize, Act, Do, do not concern yourselves with monetary compensation, there will be enough time to unravel the financial threads later on.  Hours, not days or weeks are the most important for survival!

People of Haiti:May G_d grant you the gift of life and a strong will to live.  Seek to help each other survive for a few days and maybe for a few weeks. Help each other live, abandon all pretense of possessions and of the past.  There will be time to rebuild, there will be time to build a better Haiti in the future.

Organize yourselves according to your capacity to help each other, if you are not physically able to help, leave the destruction and congregate near the ocean.  Once there, raise your hands and plead for the mercy of G_d supreme, Humanity will provide!  You are not at fault, you are Human beings living on a planet with forces far greater than our own.  We can adapt, but we can never defeat these forces.
